1970 BUICK GS-455 STAGE 1

1970 Buick GS-455 Stage 1
ID# 446370H198949
Stage-1 High Performance Engine, 455 c.i. / 360 h.p. / 510 ft-lb, 1 of 2,465 Stage-1 Hardtops Built, 3.42:1 axle, Positraction, Functional Air Scoops, TH-400 Trans w/console shift, Bucket Seats w/ headrest, Air conditioning, power steering and brakes. The 1970 Buick 455 Stage-1 engine had the highest torque rating (510 ft-lb) of any performance engine in 1970 (only Cadillac's 500-ci engine had a higher rating). The Stage-1 option consisted of slightly larger valves and slightly more radical camshaft than a regular 455. The Buick was also one of the lightest big-blocks ever built. Its weight was very close to that of a small-block Chevy, which gave the car great weight distribution. The high compression Stage-1 455 was produced only in 1970. The engine was conservatively rated at 360 horsepower, although the actual horsepower was
probably more like 400-425.
