1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato
Chassis # DB4GT/0188/L - Reg. No. 29ALY
1 of 19 Built!
Of the original 19 cars Built by Zagato this is the only one that has upright and round head lamps in contrast to the other 18 that had the angled covered type head lamps. Another feature that is unique to this car is glass windows as compared to the normal Perspex side and rear windows found on all the others. It is believed this car was completed by Zagato themselves and shown at the Belgium Motor Show. The car was finished in silver from new. In the late 1970’s the car was converted from left to right hand drive by R.S. Williams’s workshop in the UK. A DB6 engine was fitted for better road use and a new exterior color, dark blue was added. The car was purchased by John Harper along with the original engine, then sold to Steve O’Rourke and then onto Malcolm Paris. In 1983/4 a restoration was preformed and the original engine was rebuilt and fitted. The exterior was painted a bright red. The car was still in right hand configuration. In 1985 0188/L was sold to Mike Tuck of California. Before being shipped to the US R.S. Williams, who originally converted the car to right hand drive, returned the car to its original left hand drive configuration. Mr. Tuck sold the car in 1992 to Tom Turk of England and was flown back to the UK. The car was refurbished to a very high standard and painted in the color it is today. Only two years later the car was sold to a German collector named Oliver Franz. Their value is very high, not only by virtue of this rarity but also because of tremendous performance coupled with great beauty.
