The 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop was unveiled December 8, 1956 in New York City with enthusiastic fanfare as the "Miracle Car of a Generation". It offered the option of a hardtop for year-round motoring or a convertible for summer cruising with power conversion in under one minute. The first year 20,766 were sold. It was powered by the Thunderbird V-8 with automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and a safety padded dash.
